OK, last two weeks. First....

Few months before, had applied for May 6 as a day off, so that I could wander WED fest on Friday, before the crowds arrived. However, found out I would need to be in San Jose to check on Dad; was able to drive back Friday afternoon/evening. Pooped.

Packed a bodhran (ok, it’s a native flat drum with a tipper), and flutes, and watercolors.
Left house interested and ready to roll to the festival. Arrived sometime between 11 and 12—and feeling tired, slow, and low. Dammit. Still in a funk from family and household. Just ended up wandering the fair, with no real enthusiasm.

Over the weekend kept going back to the stage in front of Walker Hall. Bluegrass, folk, reggae, carribean. Good crowds—that was where my energy and mood would lift. Will try to plant myself in front of that stage next year, make it my base camp. Cruised past the drum circle, but no interest in drumming this year. Just cannot get really interest or physical thrill out of drumming on bodhran/flat drums, despite what I thought. Love the sound, but I guess my hands prefer dumbeks/darabukas. (Although [livejournal.com profile] ribben showed me a way to hold my drum, when I found him at the Major’s house that night.)

Still too crowded in the outer perimeter. Still too much shopping (but at least the booths seemed more in keeping with the WED this year). I don’t have the money for most of the items, nor much interest in anything but musical instruments—the most expensive items (oooh, kalimbas!).

Fewer info booths this year, which I normally like to see. Bought my annual raffle tickets for GP picnic day. Did not get palm or tarot reading AGAIN this year…still holding out. No one doing charts. Did not get the massage that I wanted. Bit hard to relax when they put they massage tents right next to the big stage. And, how does one interrupt a masseuse to get an appointment slot, when they are busy massaging another customer?
On 1st day/Saturday, did stop to ask about refitting a car for veg oil fuel. May consider purchasing diesel for next car; in the meantime, need to look up refitters in Northern California.

Wandered past Giggles and [livejournal.com profile] barelyproper, who snagged me for a few seconds. Hugs, coos, then they wandered off for food. I completed the circuit. Tried to get food at fair, but lines were too long.

Decided after about 1.5 hours to head out to Majors. Stopped at Korean store near Silver Dragon for mochi balls: Chocolate, strawberry, and kona coffee. Lovely time at party. Chatted with Ruthie, told her of some of the problems and confusions I was having. (Thank you!). Was well fed—jambalaya with frog! SOOOO good. Very sorry did not get mixed drink from Master Bartender, although the cider was great. And oH! dear goddess, the chocolate cakes for dessert!!

Maneuvered around house, chatted with a few folks, mostly observed everybody and the flow and dynamics. Will some day (year?) get the hang of it all. Talked to [livejournal.com profile] ribben about fire spinning, poi, and other related items that. He is very patient and I thank him, and promise the hermit will leave her cave some day.

Left a bit after 8 to see fire spinning. Cannot express this. I have to thank [livejournal.com profile] ribben so much for organizing something so wonderful and beautiful. The following will make no sense:

I explained, recently, to [livejournal.com profile] sillymesaysme that my mind doesn’t work in linear fashion. To organize and understand things, I see/view/think/remember/classify the world in patterns. I don’t think linear, I think in mandalas. I told her, this is why I like crocheting, knitting—but especially lace. I love taking a linear, unshapened, floppy thread, and having these patterns fall from my fingers into the air.

And that’s what [livejournal.com profile] ribben and his dancers and spinners gave us that night: lace light on the night.

And my head just let it flow. It’s the same reason I used to escape to the coast, to just watch the movement and pattern of the waves at Bodega, Jenner, Goat Rock. The flow and flux of the storm clouds changing in the afternoon light along the Sonoma and Mendicino coast. I just watch, and my mind stops thinking, stops trying to plan ahead and please, and worry about what others think/want/expect---it’s all just watching the patterns of nature, without thought or expectations of another human being.

And the fire spinners were all that….I just watch the patterns unfold, watched these human spinners just blend/flow/melt along into the flow of the night and fire. Listened to the drummers with all the other night sounds. Voices were just cheers ahs ohs laughs squees with no left brain-logic-verbal meaning to clutter. All of us making noises and beats as animals. We all just flowed

I finally pulled out of right brain immersion after an hour. Walked back to the car, just breathing and counting steps. Returned to listen to Major tell her tale. Interesting time around the firepit, during the tale. But had to leave part way through---Ruthie and Shelly had promised me a place to stay, and I worried I was keeping Ruth up too late (I want to hear the rest of this story, Major!!). Thank you to R & S’s roommate (hope to meet you at Fog Faire)---love your Fruits Basket poster and giant toy Shelob! Let myself out Sunday morning, so that they could get their rest. Took myself to taqueria on Covell. Got huevos y jamon---don’t know why I didn’t ask for menudo for my headache.

Rained. Reminded me to go to Woodland mercantile to get wool army blanket—-the Ren Faire raincoat. Met up with husband at flute stand. Headed back to Majors. Very happy to see [livejournal.com profile] whalejudge stop by so we could pup-talk. Hung out until 3 or 4pm, drove [livejournal.com profile] ribben home, after packing him with strawberry mochi.

Home again home again jiggity jig.

Didn't get off the water until between 1:30 and 2pm. Found your message. Knew I wasn't going to get to see Steve 'n Sondheim (wahhhhhh!!!). Called the Dragon to get address (twice). Was interesting. Watched [livejournal.com profile] whalejudge's buffy game, w/Chris, Steve/Stephen (which spelling?), Kevin's son Michael and Sean, and had a short deep conversation with Anya. Later played Dungeoneer. Teddy Barely showed up later.

Must make amends to newbie Steven for missing his performance. Must find out if Bride and Prejudice is still playing ANYWHERE in the bay or delta area in the upcoming month. Will at least try to send him conga rats.

What did you two end up playing at house con?

Whenever our times sync, I'd like to hang out with you. As of right now, my schedule is totally crazy due to not having my license yet. As of right now, this week might be your best bet any day that isn't Wednesday or Thursday evening... I have pre-test things I have to do before I'm allowed to test and then I have night driving on Thursday. So whenever you're free, give me a call and we'll see if we can meet up? I have some stuff I would like to get sage advice on RE: roomie sitch et al.

This week going to be tough

but will see what I can do. Do you have my home e-mail? I check that periodically during the day, as well as at home.
Mine is not listed for harvest on LJ, but you can also e-mail me from our yahoo group (pumafoole). Yeah, I know---I have to learn how to fine tune my LJ.

Let me know the what the current problem is. Don't have much sage advice about what to do about any behaviors--she's pretty much her own person, and doesn't seem to have listened to any advice about--well, about anything we've talked about. Wasn't she supposed to be leaving after June, or was that just her BF?

:( Actually, I can't count on anything this week either, due to random kidnappings due to "fresh meat" iniations I keep getting dragged off to. But if y'all hang around near the Silo after pryactice, you guys might just see me driving one of those behemoths around. But I'll try and email you later on... I have a job interview today that I have to ace.

Yes, diesel cars are guud! 44+ mpg = efficient! CA low-sulphur diesel = less noxious gasses & particulate matter! Biodiesel = happy!

Funny you should mention that

At the Davis Food co-op (I know, not near you), on June 1, 6:30pm, they are going to have an informational/networking meeting to explain biofuels, and discuss options for Davis (namely, finding people who can store a tank of fuel on their property).

I'm going to RSVP on the chance that I will be back from San Jose in time to attend the discussion.

(If I do this right, back in time to catch a *train* to Davis. Will feel silly if I drive my car all the way back to Davis to discuss biofuel, and then back to Fairfield, especially after driving down and back from Santa Clara!!!)

Why is it people keep scheduling things like this for the first Wednesday of the month, dammit! I already have two potential commitments for that evening with Orchid Society and an Engineering bunch! Anyway, I'd be interested in this discussion and it's not terribly out of my way given I work in Davis. I should look into attending. Thanks for the heads up! :o)
