The Duhks come to the Palms in Winters 19 Feb Tues, 8pm $15.00

"For four years now, Canadian folk-music award-winning group The Duhks, a band of five skilled, high-energy, tattooed twenty-somethings from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been riveting audiences and winning staunch fans across North America and around the world
Since the release of their self-titled, Bela Fleck-produced album in 2005, as well as this year's Sugar Hill release Migrations, the band has won admirers as diverse as David Crosby, Dolly Parton, and Doc Watson. This is not surprising, given their blend of soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco, and Irish dance music, and the attack they bring to these interwoven acoustic styles-which might as well be called sheer rock and roll. Their unique sound has also earned them a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Country Vocal Performance by a Group or Duo category, one Juno Award, two additional Juno nominations, two Folk Alliance awards, and an Americana Music Association nomination for Best Emerging Artists. The old car was briefly named Serenity (just in the last two years). Mostly, she was called Baby.

The new vehicle is a bigger vehicle. [livejournal.com profile] barelyproper has suggested something Valkeric. Perhaps Brunhilde?

I thought this one ought to be named after another sci-fi ship: but what. Haven't seen any wonderful fantasies in a while. (None on film, anyway.)

Ah, but comics. And since mass mood has shifted from brown coats to great coats, deer stalkers, veiling and corsets, we need something with a bit more steam.

Do we call her Wulfenbach?
Agatha?
The Heterodyne?
Lucrezia Mongfish?
Bangladesh DuPree?

.
Cannonball Jane?
Nah. Not enough balls....
