musical notes: rhythm
I know these NPR files are something a lot of folks slide over. For your ears sake, if you can listen to these files, give yourself a break from the usual computer shit, and listen.
And peruse their Music articles pages, and bop through. You may find something you didn’t expect. I make “To Buy” lists from these.
Jazz percussionist Jae Sinnit, on his new album, the Sinnit Hearings. Interesting interview, and 3 great song clips. Interesting ideas of the percussionists writing the songs.

Misirlou: From Klezmer to Surf Guitar: Awesome. There was is an old rock guitarist named Dick Dale, from an era of late rock and roll called Surf Guitar. I had no idea of the man’s cultural background, nor how it influenced on of his biggest hits. It’s hearing “dumbek drummer” speak coming out of a rock and roll mouth, describing playing a guitar in a percussive manner.

Check out the various song clips, and the related articles on her influences and mentors.
NPR pages on Jazz and World Beat are great.
