Dumping the Brain: Stuff the Firste

[start of brain dump]Alright, everybody is posting upcoming stuff, and I need to get it all coordinated.

Who's got exciting/titilating/keenish stuff coming up end of April, through the end of May?

[/end of brain dump and now trying to lay all the cells and synapses out on a calendar]

P.S.: Sorry [livejournal.com profile] agengrgal, I didn't make to to the Orchid Show. Drove home from Davis Sunday morning to meet a lawn mowing guy who never showed up at 12.30 as promised. And still hasn't. Grrr.

Any news re: weekend plans?

I'm not wanting to be pushy, but I need to figure out my allocation of the produce box through the week's menu.

I can shoot for Saturday. I think I'm over whatever I had.

1) Is there a place to park a BIG car?
2) I need to check my old email for your address! And route suggestions, or shall I just trust Google (not the Napa gives one much choice on routes).

Why, yes: it's our numbered space, #385.

Up 221/Soscol or across Lincoln/turn left on Soscol. Right on River Glen Dr. Absolutely right on RG if you've crossed Pueblo. Don't cross Pueblo, kthx. River Glen is a Soscol-Soscol horseshoe that would be cut in half by Pueblo if P didn't end at Soscol. Turn into the driveway at the south corner bend; be careful about all the crazy drivers. The parking space will be on the left. Walk to the far end of the parking driveway. Folks put massive SUVs in the covered spots, so you should be fine. Knock at #221

I hope lunch works for you (11?) or come midafternoon for chatting and dinner; Barnabas' school is doing a play that night: http://dreamweaverstheatre.org/ and we need to get out of here by 7:00.

Want to play some board games as well? We have a few new ones to try out.

Yes please, if you have patience with a Bear of Very Little Brain. (The other gamers have learned to do so!)

Input time, please: do you have a strong preference for chicken, beef, pork, ham/bacon/pancetta, sausage/salami/pate? Any veg/fruit you love, don't get enough of, or dislike? Raisin bread? Sourdough? Couscous/Rice? Polenta? Crepes?

Do you love/tolerate/dislike/hate the anise/fennel/black licorice family of flavors?

By asking about the edges of the spectrum, I can more accurately gauge the middle zone. :-D

Saffron?

And nuts. Tell me about caramel.

See, I know what Barnabas likes. I know what I was willing to feed gamers. What I don't have memorized is a Temperance-specific preferences list. Yes, I could just make a delightful casserole, but those are less fun.

SAFFRON! We were just talking about it. I'd love to smell a sample if you have some. (We had some in dessert, but I wasn't sure what part of the overall taste was the saffron.)

Love nuts: walnuts, cashews, almonds, brazils. Caramel as candy is lovely, caramel over deserts is adorable.

You make what is convenient and won't get you nuts.

OK, now to fine tune this. IF available and convenient and not frustrating to Mrs. Burnsides:
Chicken is always lovely, pork a favorite I don't often get. No objections to beef (like it as well), nor ham---LOVE bacon(you've seen me at fair!). Never had pancetta, sorry to say. Sausage depends upon type, as with pate. Salami always good.

Love any veggie. Carrots, snow peas, regular peas (had heavenly spinach last night!), will eat garnet yams quite happily. Taters of course, I'm a peasant. Peppers nummy sauteed or fresh with dressing (any salad of course, you know that!) And will eat any cruciferous, I think I'd eat a brussel sprout.
Have yet to brave okra. But if you cook it, I'll eat it.

Licorice as candy, no. And yet, I love fennel with creamy dressings, never had it cooked. Anise I love in baked goods (i know I used to use 5 spice reguarly...must buy some.)

Starches: raisin bread--hell, I eat raisin bagels with tuna or chicken salad at the co-op. Sourdough is my god. Couscous is good, love rice, especially jasmine. Polenta is great comfort food. Crepes are good---but they are extra work for you. Relax and keep it simple.

Anything i should bring?

Pancetta is pork belly cured and rolled. Essentially it's bacon but a slightly different sweet:salty balance.

Yeehee. Actually I was all worried that you'd be difficult to cook for. My stars, this is going to be fun mental prep.

www.fattedcalf.com is where I get sausage these days, 'cos they've opened a local store which is awesome. It's full of trendy positive adjectives and not filler soy or starch.

Bring hunger. Yes. And a sense of patience re: board games; I've not played all of them either and Barnabas keeps trying to get me to play more Star Fleet Battles.
